Historically, Oliva was an agricultural village with a deep-rooted ceramic tradition. This municipality had a generations-old legacy of artisan knowledge, and became an important hub for the production of tiles and baked clay tiles. This industry reached its peak in the mid-twentieth century, especially in the area known as Els Rajolars.
